Testimonials

The Elephant is a quality little hotel. The staff were helpful and polite and the overall feel of the place was lovely. The design and style of the room, and establishment as a whole, was really nice. I got the feeling that real effort and thought had been put in. We really enjoyed our stay .

Another Great Hotel from the Hillbrooke Group

This group of hotels has delightful quiet outside areas to eat, drink and relax, and the Elephant is no exception
Stayed here on a Sunday night and enjoyed a delightful evening in the garden with friends and family. There was a delightful array of tasty bar snacks ably served by the friendly staff.

We are all looking forward to our next visit.

Very Impressed

Just wanted to say a big thank you to the Elephant team for making our event on Friday night such a success.
I have received great comments from my colleagues on the excellent food and all the friendly staff at The Elephant.
Great attention to detail, and the whole evening ran incredibly smoothly.  I was very impressed.
Many thanks

Absolutely lovely
Having read reviews beofre booking I thought the hotel sounded quirky but nice. On arrival I was met with a smiley, friendly receptionist. My room was just delightful - one of the best I have stayed in; gorgeous views of the garden, modern and stylish bathroom with a fantastic rain shower!
Can't wait to go back! Just need a reason now..

"Super townhouse hotel"

This hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. The accommodation, food, wines and service were all in excess of the prices charged. Excellent value and a great place to stay.

"One night stay"

Very friendly staff and the room was spot on. Missed evening meal but ate breakfast and it was the best i've had in a long time in a hotel. I should have asked where the bed and mattress came from because it was the best nights sleep i've had in weeks (even better than my own bed at home!) Will be going back on business and for social trip, 1st class hotel and with a late booking deal very, very good value for money.

"Ideal Romantic Break"

This was my second time staying at The Elephant having previously stayed back in 2007. I had a fantastic time the first time and an even better one this time around!
My partner and I decided we wanted a night away at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. We rang and were offered the last room as part of the dinner, bed and breakfast deal. There was a large tour due to check in at the hotel that night so we were lucky to get a room! We arrived at the hotel about an hour later and were greeted by a very friendly receptionist. Half an hour after settling in the room (which was one of the smaller on the 1st floor) reception called to say there had been a last minute cancellation and would we like to move to a larger room. The coach party were due to arrive at 1am right outside our room and the staff didn't want us to be disturbed. We thought this was a great gesture and were really pleased as the room was one of the deluxe, twice the size of the original room!
The room had all you could need - TV with lots of channels, tea and coffee, and a good selection toiletries in the bathroom. All the rooms are individually decorated and furnished so they really appeal if you're looking for something that extra special and unique.
Dinner was served in the restaurant and the menu had a variety of dishes to choose from. The food was beautifully cooked and a lot of the ingredients seemed to be locally sourced. Breakfast was also served in the restaurant with hot choices from the menu and a buffet of fruit, yoghurt, juices and pastries. There's also the bar and lounge area for a relaxing glass of wine by the fire.
You can stay room only or take a package such as the dinner, bed and breakfast. I would recommend this as it means you don't have to worry about anything as it's all included at a great price!
The hotel is located in the centre of Pangbourne and although a lovely village we found everything we needed for a romantic night away was provided and so didn't leave the hotel! I would recommend The Elephant for couples that wants a night or two away somewhere memorable and romantic.

"Elegant and beautifully appointed hotel"
This was a second honeymoon of sorts, well at least a 25th anniversary trip back to the hotel we stayed at on our first night back in 1984! Couldn't remember too about the old layout, and things had certainly changed. It has always been a classy hotel, but the change from Copper Inn to The Elelphant has been accompanied by a touch of real character. The dining is superb, and the rooms opening out onto the garden with their own patios are lovely - especially for an early morning coffee in your dressing gown!

The grounds back onto the church and churchyard, which is quite spectacular, and the countryside is very close, with lovely walks straight down the River Pang and the Thames. Whitchurch across the Thames is lovely too, and the whole area is very pretty.

All in all a lovely hotel with a great colonial/Raj feel about it.

Beats the Usual Hotel Chains!
Hotel is very clean, staff very helpful and friendly. I managed to get this room at a reduced rate of £65! I didn't get to eat dinner at the hotel as I arrived after 10pm, shame they had stopped serving! however, the food at breakfast was really good. Would certainly go back if I am down that way again

"A lovely local hotel - personal touches and character"
We recently had a lovely two-night stay at the Elephant
for a family wedding.
The staff are lovely and very friendly, and as soon as
we arrived we felt relaxed and comfortable. We stayed in
the English Eccentric room which was excellent and very big
(it is a superior), but all the rooms we saw were well
decorated and welcoming. Some of the rooms in the new wing
are a bit darker so if you like natural light you may be better
off in the main building. The hotel had a really personal feel -
the staff always knew your room number when you collected your
keys from reception, and were always friendly and welcoming.
And the bed was incredibly comfortable -
highly recommended for a good night's sleep!!
