For a relaxing riverside stroll, the Mapledurham Lock – River Thames Views Loop from Pangbourne is an ideal choice. This easy walk follows accessible paths along the Thames, offering beautiful water views and glimpses of historic landmarks. Highlights include Mapledurham Lock, a peaceful riverside stop with passing boats, and the view of Hardwick House, thought to have inspired Toad Hall in The Wind in the Willows. The walk also features scenic Thames views, often dotted with swans and geese, making it a wonderful place to unwind.

Elvendon Lane and Hartslock Nature Reserve Loop

This route features Wroxhills Wood, a peaceful forest that bursts into color with bluebells in spring, and Hartslock Nature Reserve, a south-facing chalk downland with breathtaking views over the Thames. The final stretch follows the Gatehampton to Goring-on-Thames path, a serene riverside trail with grazing livestock and picturesque countryside.

The Goring Bridge – Hartslock from River Thames Loop is a scenic and varied walk that takes you through idyllic riverside paths, historic villages, and conservation areas rich in wildlife. Starting from Pangbourne, the route passes Whitchurch Bridge before leading to Goring-on-Thames, a charming village known for its beautiful setting in the Goring Gap. The Hartslock from River Thames – Hartslock Nature Reserve Loop is a fantastic walk that showcases the beauty of the River Thames and its surrounding countryside. Starting from Pangbourne, the route follows the river, passing Whitchurch Bridge before reaching Hartslock Nature Reserve. The River Thames Circular from Henley-on-Thames is a delightful riverside walk filled with historic landmarks and stunning scenery. Starting in Henley-on-Thames, the route passes Henley Bridge, an 18th-century stone bridge near the renowned Leander Club. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of Fawley Court, a historic mansion, and Temple Island, which marks the start of the Henley Royal Regatta Course. The final section offers a beautiful Thames Valley View, making this an enjoyable and varied circular route.

Whitchurch Bridge – Hartslock from River Thames Loop

Distance: 5.86 miles | Time: 2 hours 35 minutes | Difficulty: Intermediate

The Whitchurch Bridge – Hartslock from River Thames Loop is a peaceful riverside walk with plenty of scenic highlights. Starting in Pangbourne, the route crosses Whitchurch Bridge, a historic toll bridge, before following the Thames along quiet trails. The highlight of the walk is Hartslock, a conservation area managed by the Wildlife Trusts, known for its rare plants and panoramic views over the river. The return journey takes you along tranquil country paths, making this a relaxing and rewarding walk.
